I don't keep all the books I read, space would be an issue but I do keep those that hold memories of places or people I've encountered when I've been reading them. As years pass even that collection of books have been whittled down as I think where will they all go when I die, who will take them. Meantime this summer's reading is Michael Connolly's Lincoln Lawyer series with Invisible Women waiting in the wings.

I think decisions around what books to keep is a difficult one. Space is always an issue and I know there’s a limit to how many more I can keep! Also, yes, I wonder who will want my books! And if I ever move will someone panic at all the empty shelves! It’s good to start a series over the summer. I haven’t read any Michael Connolly so I must give him a go. Invisible Women is on my shelf and I need to get to it. Keen to hear what you think of it….

Invisible women - first reactions are shock (I don't know why because I know that it's a male led world), anger at how invisible talented, clever women are but a greater awareness of how we allow males dominate designing the world for us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgPV5qPtjh0&t=901s - I love netball and this is netballers talking about training regimes.

I def must get this book read. I think we do know some of the impact of being invisible but we need to be reminded of it in black and white to know how widespread it is. Interesting discussion on that video about cycles, training and injury. Being a female athlete isn’t easy cos you’re just supposed to get on with it… it’s good research is being done.

A very lovely, honest piece, Deborah, and beautifully written.

Coincidentally, I have been thinking of culling my books and perhaps bringing them in to work to create a little (or quite large!) sharing shelf - I have many that I know I enjoyed reading but can’t necessarily recall the story between the covers! Like Margaret, who also commented, I’m concerned about who will have to cull my books eventually if I don’t.

I’ve made a list from your recommendations and will have it to hand when I pop in to my local Cowbridge bookstore; the suggestions will also come in handy when people ask me what I’d like…and I’ve just thought that a book would make a great gift when visiting a friend.

Thank you for making my Saturday start in Drogheda a very enjoyable and reflective one. X

Thank you Cecilia, I hope you have a lovely time in Drogheda with the family. It’s lovely to have local bookstores and support them so I hope you pick up something next time you are in the Cowbridge one. I think books are very personal. We may treasure our collections but probably no one else will! Although I do always feel a little pang when I hear of people culling theirs when they downsize! Hope all well with everyone x

This is just excellent Deborah! I agree with it all wholeheartedly. I want to meet more women like you. Can you clone yourself so I can finally have a group of female friends lol

Thank you for this and I love the bit about cloning! I do think there is something unique about women putting language around things and making sense of them. I’ll be in touch when I get back from my trip!
