Thankyou. I hope all goes well for the book and look forward to ordering it when its done. I've been listening to a very good writing podcast called always take notes. Dont know if you have come across it. I also thought of you while reading an excellent memoir about a priest who left the church called leaving church by Barbara Brown Taylor. i love her books on preaching. If you'd like it give me a shout but its a very interesting and insightful read and relates a lot to some of your observations on church.
Thank you Jono. Book almost there… I plan to get it to the copy editor by mid October and then it goes through the publishing process and I hope to have a launch in March. I’ll share the date in due course. Yes Always Take Notes is on my podcast list! It sounds like I should read Barbara’s book! I have two essays in my book on church and faith… not sure how well I explain it all though!
Loved the bit about... know who you are and resentment being caused by taking a biscuit instead of a burger. Oftentimes people have a hard time accepting who they are and that's why feed on the wrong stuff so to speak. Self acceptance is so important.
Yes, totally agree about feeding on the wrong stuff! I wonder why there is such a fear or reluctance to accept who you are. Is it because it might go against family or cultural expectations...
There is often a conflict between what we think we should be like and what we are actually like. Ideas about what we should be like are certainly formed through our experience of family, society and what is prized by those things. It's a shame because people are more interesting when they accept and can be themselves.
It’s really fascinating. Richard Rohr’s loyal soldier analogy has always stuck with me, how we can be conditioned by societal and familial rules into being false selves in many ways and have to discharge our loyal soldier to get to the second half of life and find our true selves. We are often told we need to know who we are, yet not often shown the way towards finding out who we are.
Richard Rohr is so wise, I had not heard about the loyal soldier before so thanks for that! I love my job because it helps people get to know who they are and find ways to be that in their lives. When people move towards more authentic living and away from the "shoulds", they experience greater satisfaction.
Great piece Deborah Really enjoyed it!
Thank you Jono, hope you’re keeping well. Still listening to your podcast every week and enjoying it!

Changeover week! Yep, just sorted out the content of the wardrobe this afternoon! Wonderful piece of writing.
Aw thank you Rosina. You know I kind of like that wardrobe changeover. Tonight I wore my winter coat!

Thank you once again for the great piece to stir memories. Hula Hoops for me - weird fake potatoes but remind me of grannies house.
Ah Marcella you’re bringing back memories of putting hula hoops on my fingers and eating them off them!!
