My 5 year old is just starting to show glimpses of the teenager she will become and I can’t quite believe it’s happening already. “Why do I have to do EVERYTHIIIIIN-GUH?!” is her new favourite phrase. (“Everything”, in this instance, being putting her shoes away.)
That sounds very familiar! Mind you I’ve found myself saying that too recently! I can’t do everything round here is my favourite thing to say but no one even cares when I say it!
I am sure I was much more respectful to my parents than my children are to me! But there is comfort in knowing I’m not the only one dealing with all this teenage stuff...
Just stumbled upon your substack and this is the first post I'm reading. It had me in stitches! My kiddos are younger (7 and 9) but it definitely reminds me of growing up with two sisters. And I appreciate reading about what is to come. Also, thanks for calling BS on that quote to make moms feel guilty. I have enough guilt without made up statistics! Looking forward to reading more!
Thank you so much and I’m thinking how lovely it is to be stumbled across! I always wish I could tell people it gets easier as children get older but honestly the teenage years…. But there are pluses, they can be left in the house and you can get back out again! I think us mothers are always at risk of being made to feel guilty no matter how we mother.
That's for sure! On one level, there's a lot to be said for '70s parenting; fewer..., no..., make that no smart a** comments directed at parents. Unless of course, you wanted to go live in a ditch instead!

I know Rosina, this new parenting style leaves us vulnerable to being managed by our children... seems the wrong way round.
The joys of parenting teenagers! 🤣👏
Brilliant piece. It makes me think you might have been in my house in the last few weeks! Roll on, the school year!
Ha ha Rosina, by the sounds of things all teenagers share common traits. We are in this together!
I remember them days many moons ago
I hope the memories fade with time!
Brilliant writing as always 💖✨ what an intro 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed. I’m sure there’s other crimes I could have added in to that first paragraph - still thinking about it!
