This December people asking 'are you all set for Christmas?' has made me think what does that mean for me and what does the person who has asked want to hear. The Marksies ad this Christmas, using Meatloaf song, encourages us to ditch the thing we don't enjoy and made me question traditions. Was I all set for Christmas? I don't know but it has come and gone. This year I felt more at peace than previous years.

Yes I think it’s good to ask what does all set mean to me? Also I am asking myself am I doing this because I want to or just because it’s a tradition that’s always been done or has been forced on me. I’m glad you have felt more at peace this Christmas. Best wishes for the New Year!

This is exactly me : « And I thought about the relief it would be to not give presents but just be gifts to each other, the joy I would feel at abandoning ritualistic over-indulgent obligations and replacing them with a simple act of gathering with people who spiritually feed me »

I’m not there yet but I lobby the family hard to give up presents for adults. We are down to one only so hopefully next year it ll be zero.

And yes to a cozy puzzle!

It does take time to deconstruct and then reconstruct the Christmas that works for us. I am gradually doing it. So hoping you get to zero adult presents next year! Have a lovely Christmas and all the best for the New Year!

These days I try to do nothing but enjoy people's company (and take time out alone outdoors). No cards, few gifts, etc. it's better.
